Prospect Watch: Friday was a historically putrid evening for the Chihuahuas as they allowed a franchise-record 26 runs in their loss to Albuquerque. The pitching staff walked 13 batters, allowed 23 hits, uncorked four wild pitches, and allowed the Isotopes to hit .550 (11-for-20) with runners in scoring position. … Infielder Will Wagner started his rehab assignment with the Chihuahuas and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. The left-handed hitting infielder went down in the spring with a strained right oblique. He was acquired last year at the trade deadline from Toronto in exchange for catcher Brandon Valenzuela. Wagner, 27, had solid results in his big league debut in 2024, but struggled in both organizations last year. … Right fielder Samad Taylor continued his hot stretch, as he singled twice and scored a run in the defeat. Taylor has hit safely in four straight, including three multi-hit efforts during that stretch. The former Mariner and Royal ranks fifth in the PCL with a .340 average, and his 1.039 OPS ranks fourth. … Triston McKenzie relieved starter Marco Gonzales and had a troubling outing. McKenzie faced six hitters, allowed two singles, walked four, and all six baserunners came around to score. The former Guardians starter looked promising early in his career and came into this spring vying for a role on the big league staff. Instead, McKenzie has struggled mightily, walking a staggering 20 batters in just 11.2 Triple-A innings, and after Friday’s meltdown, he has a 14.66 ERA in seven outings. The velocity is still in the mid-90s, but he will need to show better command to have a chance. … Garrett Hawkins also struggled Friday, as he allowed six earned runs while recording just two outs. Hawkins wasn’t the victim of bad luck; the Isotopes hit three balls over 104 mph, including a prodigious homer off the bat of former first-rounder Zac Veen that traveled 438 feet, leaving the bat at 111 mph. Hawkins got off to a good start this season but has struggled in recent outings. He allowed five unearned runs in an outing on April 24 and allowed an earned run against the ‘Topes on Tuesday. Friday’s outing caused his ERA to swell from 2.84 to 7.84. His trademark fastball has been sitting 93-94 mph and getting 16-17 inches of induced vertical break over his last five appearances, both of which are down from last year, when Hawkins emerged as one of the top relief arms in the system.
Roster Move: In addition to Wagner beginning his rehab assignment, righty Justin Yeager was transferred to the development list.
Tulsa Drillers 7, Missions 2

Prospect Watch: The Missions and Drillers were tied at two before Tulsa scored four runs in the seventh to defeat San Antonio and drop their record to 6-19. … Ethan Salas continued his torrid stretch as the young catcher connected on another home run, his fourth in his last six games. He also singled and drew a walk. Salas has two hits in each of his last six starts. All four of his homers have come in his last five starts. After Friday’s game, Salas is hitting a tremendous .319/.390/.565, with his .955 OPS ranking eighth in the circuit. … Braedon Karpathios singled twice and drew a walk in the loss. It was Karpathios’ second multi-hit effort of the series – a welcome sign for the 23-year-old. The San Antonio outfielder is 4-for-13 over his last four games, raising his average from .156 to .183. After an untenable strikeout rate well north of 40% in the early going, Karpathios has punched out just four times in his last 33 trips to the plate. … Lost in another multi-run loss was the impressive outing from lefty Jagger Haynes. The 23-year-old lefty tossed six strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He hit two batters, walked one, and struck out a season-high eight batters. Friday’s outing was the first time since June 21, 2025, that Haynes completed six innings. Haynes struggled in the season opener, but has looked better over his last two outings. He’s struck out 14 batters over his last 11 innings while pitching to a 3.27 ERA during that span.
TinCaps 6, South Bend Cubs 2
Key Statistics: LF Alex McCoy 1-for-3, R, 2 BB; RF Jake Cunningham 1-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB; 1B Jack Costello 2-for-4, R, HR (3), 4 RBI, BB; 3B Zach Evans 2-for-4; LHP Kash Mayfield 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 K; RHP Luis Germán (W, 1-0) IP, 2 H, BB; RHP Tucker Musgrove 1.2 IP, H, BB, 3 K; RHP Clay Edmondson (S, 4) 1.1 IP, 4 K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps put together one of their best efforts of the season, as the offense took advantage of nine walks and the bullpen shut down South Bend to win on a cold night in Indiana. … Jack Costello connected on two hits, including a two-run shot in the ninth inning, to put the game out of reach. The multi-hit effort extended Costello’s hitting streak to seven games. As usual, Costello has put the ball in play frequently in 2026. He’s punched out in just 11.8% of his plate appearances, and he’s sporting an excellent 13% walk rate. Overall, the former USD infielder has a .792 OPS in his return to the TinCaps. … Lefty Kash Mayfield battled command issues and turned in his worst start of the season. Mayfield tossed 3.2 innings, walking a career-high five batters. He also hit a batter as he threw just 35 of his 80 pitches for strikes. He was able to limit the damage a bit, allowing only two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies, but his line for the night was saved when CJ Widger stranded all three of the runners he inherited. Despite the struggles, the 21-year-old has a 2.29 ERA in five starts. … Tucker Musgrove looked sharp in relief, as the former University of Mobile star tossed 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit. He walked one and struck out three. The 24-year-old started the year in extended spring training after a minor arm injury late in camp and has flashed high-end stuff for the TinCaps, despite some struggles. He’s punched out 11 batters in six innings, but he’s walked seven, leading to a WHIP of two. Friday’s outing is certainly a step in the right direction. … Sidewinder Clay Edmondson vaporized the Cubs, striking out all four batters he faced to notch his fourth save of the season. The 22-year-old out of UNC Asheville has been the only reliable arm in a TinCaps bullpen that has struggled immensely. Friday’s outing lowered his ERA to 0.82. Midwest League hitters have produced a pathetic .361 OPS against Edmondson. The former 14th-rounder has had some good luck with balls in play, but he’s also punched out 14 batters over 11 innings.

Prospect Watch: The Storm used a 12-hit attack to win their third straight over the Buzzers. Lake Elsinore will have two chances this weekend to win their second consecutive series. … Justin DeCriscio had a nice night at the plate, as the former NC State infielder had three doubles to move into a tie for the Cal League lead with 11. He also scored a pair of runs and drove in one. The Orange, California native has been an offensive force at the plate this season, delivering a .986 OPS while striking out in just eight percent of his plate appearances. … Luke Cantwell had three hits, a walk, and three RBI in the victory. The former Pittsburgh first baseman has enjoyed the launchpad that is the new ONT Field. In three games, he has gone 6-for-9, raising his batting average from .225 to .306. He was the Padres’ 20th-round pick last year. … Lefty Kruz Schoolcraft had another mixed bag of results, pitching into the fourth inning for the first time but producing a less-than-stellar line. The former first-rounder pitched 3.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five. He also added a pair of pickoffs. The Oregon native threw 60 pitches, 35 for strikes. Through five starts, Schoolcraft has a 13.50 ERA.
